The NISD Board of Trustees met at the Newcastle Board Room at 505 Washington Ave, Newcastle, TX on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 7:08 pm for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
Present: Tommy Dee Taylor, president, Bruce Bailey, vice-president, Beth Jordan, secretary, Kenneth Lowe, member, Kerry Lowe , member, Carla Short, member and Thomas Spurlin, member.
Board Members absent:
Also Present: Gordon H Grubbs, superintendent, Ty Spitzer, Dr Bill Campion & Ms. Campion, Ranger College, David Gordon, Region 9, Kristi Bohannan, SHAC committee, Courtney Spitzer, David Brockman, Cody Lowe, & Dakota Lowe.
The meeting was called to order by the president, Tommy Dee Taylor. Motion was made by Bruce Bailey and seconded by Carla Short to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 6-0.
Oath of office.
Election of officers – Tommy Dee Taylor nominated Bruce Bailey for president, Kenneth Lowe seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
Ranger College, President Dr. Campion presented – 30 hours completed by graduation, Ranger College will give tuition and all fees free sophomore year, and enrollment of concurrent credit for welding, wind energy program for repair technicians.
David Gordon, Region 9 ESC – Funding gene- proposing to offer individual sex education, choking game, bullying, alcohol, ABCs of Life & WEBS (What Comes Before Sex?).
SHAC Report – Kristi Bohannan, Ty Spitzer, Drug testing policy proposal - $2,600/annual – 10 random checks including all students at first – athletes, driving on campus – if positive tested monthly.
Bruce nominated Kerry Lowe for Vice-President and Tommy Dee Taylor seconded. Motion carried 5-0-1.
Tommy Dee Taylor nominated Mary Beth Jordan for Secretary and Kerry Lowe seconded. Motion carried 6-0.
