Consistently receiving an “exemplary” rating from the Texas Education Agency is never easy. But when your campus accomplishes this honor with over 60% of its student body falling within the low socio-economic sub population qualifies as distinguished performance! For the third straight year Newcastle School has been recognized for consistent, exemplary, academic performance.
The criteria for distinguished performance schools in Texas include:
- Title I, Part A campus in 2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-10;
- Maintained a campus residing population of 40% or more low-income in 2009-2010;
- Met AYP (No Child Left Behind – Adequate Yearly Progress) in 2008 and 2009;
- Achieved a campus rating in Spring 2009 of Exemplary;
- Achieved a campus rating in Spring of 2008 of either Exemplary or Recognized; and
- Achieved a campus rating in Spring of 2007 of either Exemplary or Recognized.
During the Region 9 ESC Regional Advisory Council’s April meeting in Wichita Falls Ms. Cathy Creel, Newcastle School principal, Kem Forbus, high school English/Theater/Speech teacher, Teresa Koonsman, grade 2/3 math/science teacher, and Gordon H. Grubbs, Newcastle ISD superintendent were presented with a beautiful plaque from the Texas Education Agency for academic excellence and distinguished performance. “This has been another outstanding year for our school, students and teachers with a broad range of successes. Our administration, faculty, staff and students work very hard throughout the year and it is so rewarding to receive this kind of recognition from our state education agency,” said Gordon H. Grubbs, superintendent.
