Jacob Forbus Named "Best Actor" during District OAP Contest
April 05, 2010
Doesn't happen very often that the "best actor" comes from a school that doesn't advance to the next level, but that's exactly what happened last week in Aspermont! Jacob Forbus was named the district's best actor while the Newcastle play, "Arsenic and Old Lace" failed to advance to the area competition! Jacob did a super job as Mortimer and Courtney Bailey was once again named to the "All-Star Cast" for her portrayal of Aunt Abbie. Elise Camp made the "Honorable Mention All-Star Cast" as Abbie's sister, Aunt Martha, and new to the one-act play scene was Cody Coop who also walked away with an honorable mention all-star cast award.
The Newcastle High School cast and crew did a superior job Wednesday at Aspermont and totally stepped up their performance for the district competition. I truly thought that Justin Bohannon deserved a spot on one of the all-star casts because of his improved performance but in the one-act play world it all comes down to one person's opinion. The play from Aspermont, "The Imaginary Invalid", was absolutely wonderful and I can totally understand their advancement, but the other three were so close it would be very tough to decide and I'm a little partial! That's all I'm going to say about the judging of the district contest because my Mamma always told me, "If you can't say anything good about someone, don't say anything at all." I try to follow my Mamma's advice!
Congratulations to Kem Forbus, our OAP director, and her cast, Courtney Bailey, Elise Camp, Cody Coop, Jacob Forbus, Jenna Evans, Justin Bohannon, Brandon Kimbro, Shane Potter, Paul Martinez, Austin Reeves, Courtney Spitzer, and Charitye Lowe and the crew, Curtis Potter, Shaye Bohannon, and Amy Clayborn.
