One-Act Play Advances to District Finals in Aspermont

Jacob Forbus, Courtney Bailey and Elise Camp Receive Honors

by Gordon Grubbs

March 29, 2010

Saturday was a long but very rewarding day for the Newcastle One-Act Play troupe!  There were six school districts in the east zone OAP competition and the Newcastle students were scheduled last with the curtain going up about 6:00 pm.  That long, anxious wait paid huge dividends as the Newcastle play, "Arsenic and Old Lace" ended the day on an upswing with its  humor and the strong performances by Newcastle students!  Besides the Newcastle OAP the Throckmorton performance of  "Steel Magnolias" will represent the east zone.  At the time of this writing we are not sure who may be representing the west zone.

Jacob Forbus has picked up right where he left off last year with recognition as the "Best Actor" for the zone contest.  Also picking up awards was Courtney Bailey on "All-Star" Cast and Elise Camp named to "Honorable Mention All-Star" Cast.  Curtis Potter was recognized as an outstanding crew member for his work with lights!  All of the Newcastle cast/crew did a great job and they include the following:  Cody Coop, Jenna Evans, Justin Bohannon, Brandon Kimbro, Shane Potter, Paul Martinez, Austin Reeves, Charitye Lowe, Courtney Spitzer, Shaye Bohannon and Amy Clayborn.  Great work kids!

The OAP cast will now travel to Aspermont instead of Guthrie for the district contest this Wednesday, March 31st.  We don't know the schedule for performances Wednesday but you might want to give the school a call later this afternoon or tomorrow to find out the exact time of the Newcastle performance.
