Newcastle LadyCats Win BiDistrict Trophy

LadyCats 49 - Rising Star - 29

The old adage about defense winning championships was once again proven to be true Tuesday night in Stephenville as the LadyCats swarming defense held the ladies from Rising Star to only 3 shots in the first quarter and 4 more in the second quarter.  Tough defense from the LadyCats press proved to be a wall that Rising Star just couldn't climb.  Oh yeah....along the way junior forward Haily Kramer poured in 22 points and senior Tara Evans contributed 15 more for the LadyCats.

Haily and Tara scored most of the LadyCats 49 points but it was the defense that shined on this evening holding Rising Star to only 29.  The front line, Kimberly Bell, Haily Kramer, and Tara Evans kept the pressure on the Rising Star guards all night and as soon as they tried to make that pass down court, there was Latisha Short and Courtney Bailey just waiting like a Bobcat on its prey!  The LadyCats' super subs - Courtney Spitzer, Jenna Evans, Whitney Norman, Amy Clayborn and Darcy Lewelling - also did a great job of controlling Rising Star offense.  By the start of the 4th quarter the Rising Star ladies were dead on their feet from running for their lives trying to advance the ball downcourt!  At about the 3 minute mark Coach Libby puts in those subs and most teams think they can take a breather but that's not what happens!  It's three more minutes of intense run for your life basketball.

The LadyCats area game will be this Friday at 6:30 pm in Albany with the ladies from Roby.  I don't know what their mascot is but I do know they are the defending Class A Division II state champions and they have been ranked in the top 3 teams all season long.  They are good - they are real good - and the LadyCats will have to play some of their best team ball of the season!   But so are the LadyCats and we don't plan to wave a white flag before the game even begins!  Everyone come to Albany Friday night and support our LadyCats on their journey toward another playoff victory!
