2009 All-District Volleyball Honors Announced!

4 LadyCats Named to Academic All-District!

by Gordon Grubbs

November 10, 2009

The 2009 Newcastle LadyCats volleyball season came to a disappointing end way too soon but the improvement that the LadyCats showed throughout the season was recognized by district coaches with their all-district selections.

The district MVP for 2009 was Kylie Sherrin of Bryson.  The best offensive player of the year honors was shared by LadyCat Haily Kramer and Bryson Cowgirl, Jordan Brooks.  Haily did a great job of hitting this year and was very capable of taking over a game with her agressive play around the net.  Setter of the year was earned by Paige Hauger of the Bryson Cowgirls.  Defensive Player of the Year was LadyCat, Tara Evans. Tara had a knack for keeping shots alive even if it required sacrificing her body.  Kandyce Campbell of Poolville was named the blocker of the year and newcomer of the year was shared by Bryson's Sofia Ramos  and Perrin's Kelsey Hutton.

The LadyCats had two girls named to the all-district first team - Kimberly Bell and Courtney Bailey.  Darcey Lewelling and Courtney Spitzer were named to the all-district second team and Randi Bohannon and Whitney Norman were named as honorable mention team members.  Tara Evans, Randi Bohannon and Whitney Norman are the only senior LadyCats receiving all-district honors which indicates that our LadyCats should be very strong contenders once again for playoff contention.  All of district champion, Bryson Cowgirls, were seniors!  Of course with realignment next year, who knows who will end up in our district next year!  Could be very good but could be very bad!  We'll know sometime in February.

Congratulations also to four girls who kept up with their academic paces while playing volleyball!  These girls were named to the academic all-district team.  These girls include Haily Kramer, Courtney Bailey, Amy Clayborn, and Courtney Spitzer.  Great job girls!
