Bobcats Outmanned by the Throckmorton Greyhounds!
Bobcats 12 - Greyhounds 62
October 21, 2009
The game with Throckmorton started off great with the Bobcats moving the ball straight down the field to about the Hounds 15 yard line when suddenly the game changed. A fumble return for a touchdown at 6:55 of the first quarter started a scoring frenzy by the Greyhounds and the first quarter ended with a 40-0 score in favor of Throckmorton!
The second quarter was somewhat better but the damage had been done. The Bobcats were working hard to try to keep this game going into the third quarter so they could regroup at half-time and come back with a renewed sense of confidence. It was obvious that the Bobcats confidence was damaged by their physical stature on the field. The Bobcats finally got on the board at the 3:31 mark of the second quarter with Dakota Lowe running over from the four yard line for the first Bobcat score. And Justin Bohannon scored six more with a 12 yard run with only 13 seconds left in the half. Bohannon was the leading rusher for the Bobcats with 80 yards on 7 carries. Brandon Bailey added 44 yards on 3 carries and Dakota Lowe had 7 yards on 2 carries.
The Greyhounds ended the game at the 9:15 mark of the third quarter with a 20 yard run by Michael Everett which was highlighted by a very controversial, cutback block on unsuspecting Shane Potter ten yards behind the play. The block is legal but the celebration by the Greyhound player as Shane was trying to regain his upright stance was totally unnecessary and not behavior supported by Throckmorton Coach Mike Reed. It's probably good that the game ended at that point without further confrontations.
The Bobcats suffered from 9 fumbles and thankfully only lost two of them, but the other seven sure put the Bobcats offense in a hole that they couldn't recover from. It was a tough night for the Bobcats but the good news is that the Bobcats are still in the race for the 2nd playoff spot! Crowell came roaring back and beat Vernon Northside so every team except Throckmorton now has at least one loss. The Bobcats must now go on the road to face Vernon Northside and their all-state end - Zac Agnew. It will be a great game and I hope that the Bobcats have recovered from their bout with the flu bug and the Greyhounds defeat.
