LadyCats Back on Winning Track!!

The Lady Monarchs of Poolville put up a valient fight but the Newcastle LadyCats moved their district record to 2-1 in three straight games Friday night at Poolville.

It seemed that this match was a game of LadyCat and mouse - so to speak!  At the beginning of each game the LadyCats and Lady Monarchs would go back and forth; back and forth.  And, suddenly around the 13th point of each game the LadyCats would make their move.  The first game ended in a score of 25-17 with the LadyCats having some trouble getting their serves in but coming back strong after their first full rotation.  Courtney Bailey served about 6-7 straight points that broke the Lady Monarchs back.

Game two was pretty much the same but the Lady Monarchs scored 2 more points this time in a game that ended up 25-19.  This game was simply a pretty good team effort by the LadyCats with not one player standing out.  I must say though that Kimberly Bell's setting has improved every single game and her consistency is really paying dividends.  Friday she was setting the ball from all over the court and doing a real good job.

The final game was a little more tense with the Lady Monarchs staying close to the very end!  As a matter of fact they were ahead for most of this game.  It appeared to be a third game let down by the LadyCats but a couple of timely blocks at the net by Whitney Norman turned the game around and the LadyCats prevailed with a 25-21 victory.

This week the LadyCats continue their journey toward a district crown with a Tuesday game at Woodson and a Saturday game here versus the always tough Graford Lady Rabbits.  Who knows what time the games will actually begin.  They seem to be moving target.

The Woodson Cowgirls forfeited Tuesday's game due to a shortage in players.  That forfeit moved the LadyCats record to 3-1 and a second place standing at this point in the district race.  The LadyCats' game Saturday will be a crucial first round game because the Lady Rabbits are right behind the LadyCats in district standings.  Here are the district standings as of Thursday, October 8th:

Bryson  4-0; Newcastle 3-1; Graford 2-2; Poolville 2-2; Perrin 1-3; and Woodson 0-4
