The NISD Board of Trustees met in the Newcastle Board Room at 505 Washington Ave on Monday, August 31, 2009 at 7:00 pm for a public hearing, and their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
Present: Tommy Dee Taylor, president, Bruce Bailey, vice-president, Beth Jordan, secretary, Kenneth Lowe, member, Carla Short, member, and Thomas Spurlin, member. Tradd Strawbridge, member, resigned.
Board Members absent:
Also Present: Gordon H Grubbs, superintendent and Cathy Creel, principal, Kerry Lowe, and Ty Spitzer.
The meeting was called to order by the president, Tommy Dee Taylor. Motion was made by Beth Jordan and seconded by Kenneth Lowe to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion was made by Tommy Dee Taylor and seconded by Bruce Bailey to approve budget amendments for 2008-2009 as presented, attached and amended. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion was made by Beth Jordan and seconded by Bruce Bailey to adopt the 2009-2010 budget as presented. Motion carried 6-0. Record vote: Tommy Dee Taylor – for, Bruce Bailey – for, Beth Jordan – for, Kenneth Lowe – for, Carla Short – for, Thomas Spurlin – for.
Motion was made by Tommy Dee Taylor to approve Ordinance for 2009-2010 M & O Tax Rate of $1.17. Motion was seconded by Carla Short. Motion carried 6-0. Record vote: Tommy Dee Taylor – for, Bruce Bailey – for, Beth Jordan – for, Kenneth Lowe – for, Carla Short – for, Thomas Spurlin – for.
Motion was made by Carla Short and seconded by Thomas Spurlin to approve Newcastle ISD grading policy for Student Handbook 2009-2010. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion was made by Thomas Spurlin and seconded by Kenneth Lowe to approve Newcastle ISD Parental Involvement Policy. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion was made by Tommy Dee Taylor and seconded by Beth Jordan to accept letter of resignation for Board member Tradd Strawbridge. Motion carried 6-0.
Discussion/Information Items: Property & Bus Route
Motion was made by Tommy Dee Taylor, President and seconded by Beth Jordan to move into executive session. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion was made by Tommy Dee Taylor, President and seconded by Beth Jordan to move out of executive session. Motion carried 6-0.
Motion was made by Kenneth Lowe and seconded by Bruce Bailey to adjourn meeting. Motion carried 6-0.
