Bobcats Bounce Back in Big Way!
Bobcats 53 - Gordon 8
September 14, 2009
Believe it or not.....the Bobcats only ran 5 - that's 1.2.3.4.5!!! - plays from the line of scrimmage Friday night in their game versus the Gordon Longhorns but that's all it took to stifle the once potent Longhorns. As a matter of fact, the Bobcats scored on three of the five plays that they did run! A 60% scoring rate is pretty hard to beat!!
This evening belonged to the Bobcat defense with three interceptions for touchdowns and one kickoff return for a touchdown! Wade Sptizer had a great night on the defensive side with two interceptions for touchdowns. The first one was 65 yards and the second was 35 yards. Wade seems to be improving his 6-man football skills each week and his contributions Friday night were a sign of better things to come.
Even though Wade had two great interceptions Brandon Bailey's touchdown interception was the back breaker for the Longhorns! With about three minutes left in the game the Longhorns began a long, desperate drive to keep the game going. They moved the ball down the field and were inside the Bobcat ten yard line when Brandon Bailey stepped in front of a John Cherry pass and ran it back untouched 80 yards for the touchdown!
The Longhorns ran 36 plays for the evening and there were plenty of Bobcats involved on the defensive side with Dakota Lowe leading the way with 9 tackles and Ryan Bohannon with 7 tackles. David Brockman added 5; Wade Spitzer, Paul Martinez, Jewell Jackson and Brandon Bailey made 4 tackles each; Shane Potter and Casey Terrell had 3 tackles, and Justin Bohannon and Taylor Lewis contributed 1 tackle each. The defense spent most of the evening on the field and should definitely be prepared for the next game against the always fast Chillicothe Eagles.
The offensive fire power for the Bobcats came mostly from sophomore, Justin Bohannon who ran the ball three times from the line of scrimmage and once from a kickoff. Justin had a 66% scoring average because on two of those three runs - one for 12 yards and the other for 38 yards - he scored touchdowns. His kickoff return for a touchdown was 60 yards. A great offensive night for Justin.
The final score for the Bobcats came via the air! Jason Thomas and Taylor Lewis connected on a 45 yard touchdown at the start of the 2nd quarter. I believe that this is the first touchdown for both of these guys and it was a beautiful pass and catch. Taylor made a great fake and Jason was wide open down the east sideline. Taylor Lewis also contributed 10 points on extra point kicks and the 53rd point on an extra point pass to David Brockman.
It was quite a night for the Bobcats! I also want to let our new "spirit" team, composed of our Bobcat Cheerleaders and Dance team, know how great they are doing to lift the spirit of the games and Friday's pep rally! It was great looking out there and seeing all of those girls participating in the game. You are doing a super job and you are wonderful representatives for our school! Keep up the good work!
Bobcats next game is this Friday in Chillicothe!
