Public Meeting Scheduled for Monday, August 31, 2009
7:00 pm in Newcastle ISD Board Room
August 17, 2009
The Newcastle ISD Board of Trustees will be gathering Monday night, August 31st at 7:00 pm in the Newcastle ISD Board Room to listen to any interested community member, tax payer or parent who might have questions about the adoption of the new budget and tax rate for the 2009-2010 school year.
The proposed tax rate will remain the same as the past two years at $1.17 per $100 of property valuation. This rate is the maximum rate allowed by the state of Texas and will raise approximately $600,000 of potential tax revenue for Newcastle ISD to use for the educational programs provided to students.
The proposed budget for the 2009-2010 school year will have a slight increase of about 1.5% which will include teacher pay raises required by the state legislature and an increase of 3% for all other staff members. The total amount being considered by the Board of Trustees, $1,837,361, includes two primary funds - the maintenance and operations budget and the food service budget. Other funds to be received by the district that will include money from the federal government for Title I, Part A, American Recovery and Revitalization money, and money from a federal Pre-K grant will not be included in these budgetary decisions.
Any interested citizens are invited to attend this public hearing to provide input or simply listen to the deliberations by the Newcastle ISD Board. You can find a summary of the 2009-2010 budget on this same website by going to the public information section and looking under the budget summary heading.
