2017-2018 Newcastle High School Students Perform Above State Average in College Readiness!

October 31, 2018

Newcastle High School received its College Readiness Letter from ACT this week.  ACT has developed through collaborative research with postsecondary institutions nationwide a college readiness benchmark score for designated core college courses.  The benchmark is a minimum score needed in a subject area test. Students earning an 18 on the English Composition Test, a 22 on ACT Mathematics test, a 22 on ACT Reading Test, and a 23 on ACT Science test have a 50% chance of earning a B or higher and 75% chance of earning a C or higher in the corresponding credit-bearing college courses of English Composition, College Algebra, Social Sciences, and Biology.

Newcastle Students are averaging 20.3 in English, 23.6 in Mathematics, 19.8 in Reading, a 21.7 in Science, and a 21.5 Composite.  These scores indicate a positive future for Newcastle students entering higher institutions. Comparatively to the State average in all areas except Reading, Newcastle Students are scoring 1 to 3 points higher than the State Average.

Teachers in Newcastle continue to have high expectations for classroom performance and college readiness for their students.
