Another Successful Year for the Newcastle High School Academic Teams

This year’s academic teams consisted of 25 high school students competing in 18 events. Newcastle brought home the district academic win again this year after competing against five other schools at Bryson High School on April 6th..

Gage Bozeman, Kelsey Shields, Nicole Martinez, Emma Ray, Gracie Payne, Matthew Lowe, Holly Manos, JR Gossett, Kalysta Kee, Levi Martinez, KC Shields, Grady Shields, Arryn Eli, Richard Chapla, heather manos, Sabrina Barnes, Cheyenne Maddux, Gracie Carr, Kaleigh Chenault, Mykal Ramirez, Mikey Walker, AJ Ford, Lacy Lewelling, and Elizabeth Lowrance.

 

Students who placed at district competition:

Gage Bozeman: 3rd place Computer Applications, 3rd place Calculator Applications, 6th place Number Sense, 2nd place Persuasive Speaking..

Kelsey Shields: 6th place Computer Applications, 4th place Number Sense.

Nicole Martinez: 4th place Computer Applications.

Emma Ray: 4th place Calculator Applications, 1st place Informative Speaking, 4th place Headline Writing.

Gracie Payne: 2nd place Calculator Applications

Matthew Lowe: 1st place Calculator Applications, 4th place Informative Speaking, 5th place Math.

Holly Manos: 6th place Current Issues and Events, 3rd place News Writing.

Kalysta Kee: 2nd place Current Issues and Events, 4th place Literary Criticism, 2nd place Math.

KC Shields: 1st place Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Grady Shields: 3rd place Lincoln-Douglas Debate.

Arryn Eli: 4th place Lincoln-Douglas Debate, 5th place Spelling and Vocabulary.

Richard Chapla: 2nd place Informative Speaking, 6th place Social Studies.

Heather Manos: 2nd place Prose, 3rd place Spelling and Vocabulary.

Sabrina Barnes: 1st place Prose, 4th place Feature Writing.

Cheyenne Maddux: 6th place Prose

Gracie Carr: 2nd place Literary Criticism

Kaleigh Chenault: 1st place News Writing

Lacy Lewelling: 2nd place News Writing, 5th place Editorial Writing, 6th place Headline Writing

Elizabeth Lowrance: 3rd place Literary Criticism.

 

Those students placing 1st through 3rd advanced to regional competition along with 1st place teams. The Calculator Applications team, Math team, and Spelling and Vocabulary team along with 15 individual qualifiers, traveled to Stephenville to compete at the regional level..

Matthew Lowe placed 3rd in Calculator Applications; Grady Shields placed 3rd in Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and KC Shields placed 4th in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. Matthew Lowe and Grady Shields will compete in each of their events at the state level of competition on May 24-25. KC Shields will travel as alternate in Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
