Geometry in Construction
September 26, 2015
Geometry in Construction students began their first project in the new woodworking building this week. The students have been studying slope and Pythagorean Theorem in the geometry section of the course and are applying those concepts in construction. Each pair of students is working on measuring and cutting out a stringer which will be paired with another group to make a set of steps. The stringers are made out of 2x12 pine boards and the stair treads (steps) will be made out of 2x6 boards. Construction skills gained during this activity: team building, cutting with a rip saw, using a miter saw, hammer/nail, plan following, minimizing material waste. We appreciate the community’s support of the new GiC class.
