Minutes of Special Emergency Meeting - May 24, 2012

The NISD Board of Trustees met at the Newcastle School Gym at 505 Washington Ave, Newcastle, TX on Thursday May 24, 2012 at 8:40 pm immediately following the NHS Sports Banquet for a special emergency meeting.

Present: Bruce Bailey, president, Kenneth Lowe – vice-president, Carla Short, member, and Thomas Spurlin, member.

Board Members absent: Tommy Dee Taylor, Beth Jordan, and Tradd Strawbridge.

Also Present: Gordon H Grubbs, superintendent and Ty Spitzer, principal/athletic director.

The meeting was called to order at 8:40 pm by the President, Bruce Bailey. 

Motion was made by Bruce Bailey and seconded by Thomas Spurlin to move into closed session. Motion carried 4-0.

Discussion was held concerning resignation of Grant Gooch as teacher/coach and his move to Priddy ISD. Application of J. T. Eli as the new teacher/coach was considered. Coach Eli is highly qualified in subjects to be taught and comes highly recommended. Ty Spitzer and Gordon Grubbs recommend the employment of J. T. Eli with a one-year term contract for the 2012-2013 school years as a teacher with supplemental coaching duties.

Motion was made by Bruce Bailey and seconded by Thomas Spurlin to come out of closed session at 8:43 pm. Motion carried 4-0.

Motion was made by Bruce Bailey and seconded by Thomas Spurlin to accept resignation of Grant Gooch and offer J. T. Eli a one-year term teaching contract with supplemental coaching duties for the 2012-2013 school year. Motion carried 4-0.

Motion was made by Kenneth Lowe and seconded by Carla Short to adjourn at 8:45 pm. Motion carried 4-0.
