Bailey Taylor Burge Named "NURSE OF THE YEAR"!
Lubbock University Medical Center
May 11, 2012
Over the past few years folks around Young County have heard about the academic success Newcastle School has experienced within the state accountability system! Four consecutive years with an “Exemplary” rating and as a Title I “Distinguished Performance” district from the Texas Education Agency has placed our school and our district among the academic elites within the state of Texas! However, the academic and career excellence our students often achieve does not end with their graduation from Newcastle School!
This past week, former Newcastle School graduate, Bailey Taylor Burge, daughter of Tommy Dee and Angela Taylor, was notified of her selection as the Lubbock University Medical Center Nurse of the Year!! Quite an accomplishment for a young lady from little, old, class A Newcastle School! When Bailey’s mom called to let me know about the honor, I have to admit, I was not surprised at all. Bailey has always been the type of student who pushed herself to excel academically and it does not shock me that she continues to excel in her nursing career.
What is totally shocking to me is her chosen field of nursing – the University Medical Center’s pediatric burn unit! Can you imagine the stress each day that would come with caring for children with severe burns! It breaks my heart just thinking about it and there is no doubt that it would take a very special kind of person to do that day in and day out! Anyone who’s ever known Bailey knows that she’s a very special young lady. Just ask her grandmother or grandfather, Catherine and Bobby Bailey.
Congratulations Bailey! We, here at Newcastle School, are extremely proud of you and the success you’ve found within the nursing vocation! You continue to serve as a positive example of how hard work, dedication, and a servant’s heart can make a BIG difference in the world. And through your honor there in the city of Lubbock, you create a bright light of success back here at home – Newcastle, Texas! We love you and are proud of you!
