Bi-District Game No Problem for Bobcats!
Bobcats 52 Jayton 0
November 16, 2011
Over the years I have found that most coaches are creatures of habit! They like everything the same and do their best to make sure nothing is out of the ordinary. Playing this game with Jayton on a Saturday night rather than a Friday night was Coach Spitzer’s worst nightmare. It threw his regular weekly practice schedule all out of shape and what’s worst – if the Bobcats win – he’s already a day behind preparing for the next game! Well, Coach Spitzer and the Bobcats made it through a long week of practice and the poor Jayton Jaybirds paid the price – 52-0!
From the very first snap of the ball the Bobcats showed that this game was on and with only 24 seconds off the clock Hagen Bennett ran 10 yards for the first Bobcat score! Tyler Mays added the extra point attempt and the crush was on! Before the first quarter ended Michael Moreno had added a 3 yard score and Tyler Mays made it 2 for 2 from the extra point line. The first quarter ended at 16-0 in the Bobcats favor.
But, the Bobcats were just getting started and in the second quarter they scored 36 more points to end the game at half-time 52-0. Offensively, as usual, the Bobcats like to share the wealth when it comes to scoring and Ryan Bohannon caught a 5 yard pass from quarterback, Tyler Mays, for the third touchdown. Michael Moreno added two more touchdowns with runs of 34 and 5 yards. Tyler Mays got his name in the scorebook with a 22 yard run and putting the finishing touch on this game was Justin Bohannon and a 9 yard run. Tyler Mays kicked five of seven extra points and had 4 pass completions out of 5 pass attempts for 71 yards.
The Bobcat defense held the Jaybirds to 4 first downs and a total of 87 yards. Wade Spitzer, Shot Lowe and Hagen Bennett led the Bobcat’s defense with 20 tackles amongst them. Ryan Bohannon and Michael Moreno added 4 tackles each, Tyler Mays and James Guerin had 3 tackles each and J.W. Shields had a single tackle. Shot Lowe, Hagen Bennett and Michael Moreno each recovered a Jaybird fumble and Tyler Mays intercepted a pass.
The Bobcats are not at all satisfied with a bi-district championship and will be looking for an area championship trophy this Friday in Springtown when they play the Milford Bulldogs, the team that knocked the Bobcats out of the playoffs last year. The Bulldogs will bring a well-coached, fast, quick, varied offense that can score very quickly. It will definitely be a grudge match between two very good teams. The Bobcats and Milford will be playing in the 6:00 pm early game of a six-man double-header with the Throckmorton Greyhounds playing the Avalon ??????? in the 8:00 pm game. The cost of a ticket to see both games is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for students. Please be aware that once you leave the stadium you must pay to re-enter.
