Newcastle School was well represented Sunday afternoon, March 6th, as three senior students, Brandon Bailey, Cody Lowe, and Dakota Lowe, were inducted into the international honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. This honor society was established in 1918 and serves to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students. These young men earned this honor over the past two years by maintaining a 4.0 or higher grade point average in all of their college courses taken through Ranger College while attending Newcastle School. Today, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest honor society in American higher education and in 1929, the American Association of Community Colleges recognized Phi Theta Kappa as the official honor society for two-year colleges.
During the ceremony, Dr. Bill Campion, President of Ranger College, said, “The administration, faculty, and staff of Ranger College salute the ‘Cream of the Crop’ students who provide scholastic excellence, leadership, fellowship and service. Ranger College salutes their accomplishments and the example they provide for all students who will follow.”
All three of these young men have been active participants in the Newcastle Bobcat athletic program for their entire school career. Each one has received various post season all-district honors and they are routinely recognized as academic all-district selections. They are not only outstanding scholars but also fine young Christian men who are active in their respective churches in Newcastle. Brandon is an active member of the First Baptist Church, Newcastle and Cody and Dakota are both active members of the First United Methodist Church, Newcastle.
Brandon Bailey is the son of Bruce and Gayle Bailey and he plans to attend Tarleton State University upon graduation this spring. Cody Lowe is the son of Kerry and Phyllis Lowe and he also plans to attend Tarleton State University in Stephenville. Dakota Lowe is the son of Kenneth and Melanie Lowe and he will be attending Texas Tech University in Lubbock.
