Newcastle Spring Basketball League Nears An End
High School Girls Begin Play in Wichita Falls Summer League
May 20, 2008
Your ears are not deceiving you. Yes, that is the sound of a basketball bouncing on the hard wood floors of Newcastle gym. Coach Libby just couldn't stand not having anything to do after basketball season so he organized a spring basketball league for boys and girls teams from around the area. Each Tuesday and Thursday for the past four weeks basketball players, students and parents have been streaming into the Newcastle gym for basketball games just for the sake of improvement and love for the game.
In order to meet Texas UIL rules these teams are being coached or supervised by willing parents and/or interested persons not affiliated with the students' school athletic programs. This league simply provides high school kids a chance to play against outside competition to try to maintain their skills for the game.
In addition to the spring basketball league, some of the Newcastle High School girls have organized themselves into a team that will enter a summer league program in the Wichita Falls and Burkburnett area. They will be traveling to Wichita Falls each week and will play in two or three games each trip. These girls are really dedicated to improvement and should reap the rewards of their hard work next year when they lace up those basketball shoes in November.
