College Credit Classes for 11th & 12th Grade Students
January 08, 2008
Newcastle ISD students are fortunate that our own Mrs. Bozeman and Mrs. Clayborn have credentials that enable them to teach college credit math and English through Ranger College. Mrs. Bozeman has been teaching dual-credit college algebra and trigonometry with high school pre-calculus. She also teaches college statistics, making it possible for our students to earn nine hours of college credit math during their regular school day here. Mrs. Clayborn taught dual-credit college English 1301 first semester and will continue with English 1302 during the second semester, allowing thirteen Newcastle juniors and seniors to earn six additional hours of college credit. Additionally, Ranger College has made six hours of college history available through the internet. This year, Newcastle students have the opportunity to earn twenty-one college credits. Also, each three-hour course in which the student earns an “A” or “B” counts as one of the four required Advanced Measures for students graduating on the “Distinguished Graduation Plan.”
Ranger College classes available at Newcastle High School during the spring 2008 semester include: English 1302 and Math 1321 taught here during the school day by Newcastle instructors, Internet History 1301 and Internet History 1302 that may be accessed here during an elective period using a school computer, but are on-line classes taught by Ranger College staff.
Currently, we use funding designated as “The High School Allotment” to pay half of the tuition for these college classes and to buy the textbooks. Ranger College tuition is $240. 00 for three semester hours, $450.00 for six semester hours, and $660.00 for nine semester hours. (Internet courses add $25.00 on-line fee for each history class.) Since Newcastle ISD pays half of the tuition, the student pays approximately $120.00 for each 3-hour course for the semester. The student’s half of the tuition will be due by the first day of class on January 16. Please make checks out to Newcastle ISD.
I usually help the students register for the classes, but if you would like additional information, please contact me here at 846-3531. Interested junior and senior students that have not already signed up should contact me before January 8.
